Etiquette is not about rules that the “Lords and Ladies of the Court” made up arbitrarily. On the contrary, it stems from common sense. I view etiquette as “what works well” rather than “what you shouldn’t do.”

Instead of thinking “Don’t hold your beverage glass in your right hand” think “If you hold your beverage class in your left hand at cocktail parties, your right hand is free to shake hands with people.”
